1. How do I hire a mobility scooter?
Hiring a mobility scooter from Mobility Scooters Blackpool Ltd. is simple! You can book online via our website or call us directly to reserve your scooter. We offer flexible hire periods, from day rentals to weekly bookings, so you can choose what works best for your needs. We recommend booking in advance to ensure availability, especially during busy periods.

2. How long can I hire a mobility scooter for?
We offer a variety of hire options, including:​

  • Daily Hire (up to 24 hours)

  • Weekly Hire (7 days) You can choose the duration that best fits your needs. We also offer discounts for longer-term hires.

3. How much does it cost to hire a mobility scooter?
Our hire rates depend on the duration of the rental and the type of scooter you require. Prices start from as little as £30 for a day hire of a Mobility Scooter and from just £10 for a wheelchair, with discounts available for extended hire periods. 4. Do I need to provide any documentation to hire a scooter?
To hire a mobility scooter, we typically ask for:​

  • A deposit (refundable upon return of the scooter in good condition)

  • Details including your name, address, telephone number and email (if necessary, especially for longer hires) We also recommend that you provide us with any specific needs or mobility concerns you may have to ensure we can provide the right scooter for you.

  • You must also agree to our terms and conditions of hire and be confident in its use.

5. Can I hire a scooter if I’m a tourist or visiting Blackpool?
Absolutely! We offer scooter hire for both local residents and visitors to Blackpool. If you're here on holiday, renting a scooter can make your stay more comfortable and allow you to explore the area with ease. We provide clear instructions on how to operate your scooter, so you can feel confident getting around.

6. How do I pick up my hired scooter?
You can either:

  • Pick up your scooter directly from our Blackpool location at 54 Lytham Road.

  • Request delivery (within Blackpool and surrounding areas*). If you choose to pick up the scooter, our team will ensure you are shown how to operate it before you leave.

7. Will I get a demonstration on how to use the scooter?
Yes! When you hire a scooter, we’ll provide a quick demonstration on how to operate it if needed, including basic controls, charging instructions, and safety tips. If you’d like a more detailed tutorial, you can also book a training session for an additional fee, where one of our experts will guide you through everything.

8. What types of scooters are available for hire?
We offer a range of scooters for hire, including:

  • Compact Scooters (ideal for indoor use or short trips)

  • Travel Scooters (lightweight and foldable for easy transport)

  • Mid-size Scooters (for more comfort and stability over longer distances)

  • Heavy-duty XL Scooters (with large weight capacity) Please let us know your preferences, and we’ll recommend the best scooter for your needs.

9. Do the scooters come with accessories?
Yes! Many of our hire scooters come with accessories like:

  • Baskets for carrying personal items

  • Cup holders

  • Chargers and extra batteries for longer use If you need any accessories, just let us know when booking!

10. Can I take my hired scooter on public transport?
There may be size restrictions depending on the type of transport. We recommend checking with your transport provider for specific rules. Our Travel Scooters are especially compact and designed for easy folding, making them ideal for buses and trains. PLEASE NOTE Blackpool Transport now only allow CLASS 2 (small foldable) mobility Scooters on board buses and trams.

11. What happens if my scooter breaks down or has a problem during my hire period?
If you experience any issues with your scooter, please contact us immediately. We offer 24/7 customer support during your hire period and can arrange for a replacement scooter or repair if necessary. Your comfort and safety are our priority.

12. Can I extend my scooter hire if I need it longer than planned?
Yes, you can extend your scooter hire if you need it for longer than originally booked, subject to availability. Please contact us as soon as possible to arrange the extension and avoid any disruptions.

13. Are there any restrictions on where I can use the scooter?
Our scooters are designed for use on pavements and pedestrian areas. If you are unsure about where you can safely use your scooter, we’ll provide clear guidelines during your training session.

14. Do you offer insurance with scooter hire?
Yes, we offer optional insurance to cover any damage to the scooter during the hire period. This gives you peace of mind in case of accidental damage. If you choose not to take insurance, you may be responsible for repair costs or damages. Please mention to a member of the team. Optional insurance is just £1 per booking.

15. How do I return the hired scooter?
You can return the scooter either by:

  • Dropping it off at our store at the end of your hire period (54 Lytham Road)

  • Requesting a pick-up service (within Blackpool and surrounding areas). Please ensure the scooter is in the same condition as when you received it. If you opted for a delivery service, we will arrange a pick-up time.

16. What happens if I cancel my scooter hire booking?
If you need to cancel your booking, we offer a refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the hire date however please note there is a £10 administration charge applied

17. Is there a weight limit for your hire scooters?
Yes, each scooter has a weight limit, which varies depending on the model.

BOOT SCOOTERS: Up to 17 stone

FOLDABLE SCOOTERS: Up to 16 stone

MEDIUM SCOOTERS: Up to 17 stone

LARGE SCOOTER: Up to 21 stone

XL SCOOTER: Up to 34 stone

DOUBLE SCOOTER: Up to 30 stone (15 and 15)

Please let us know your weight requirements when booking, and we’ll recommend a suitable scooter.

18. What happens if I damage the mobility scooter during my hire?
If you have opted for insurance, damage to the scooter will be covered, subject to the terms of the policy. Without insurance, you may be liable for the cost of repairs or replacement and you will lose your deposit. In the event of damage, please notify us immediately so we can arrange for repairs or a replacement scooter if necessary.

19. How do I charge my hired scooter?
Charging your mobility scooter is easy! Each scooter comes with a charger, and we’ll show you how to use it during your initial demonstration. Simply plug the charger into your scooter and into a standard electrical outlet. Depending on the model, charging time can vary, but most scooters can be fully charged overnight. Please ensure you have checked with your accoomodation provider that it is ok to store and charge your scooter prior to hiring.

20. How fast do the scooters go?
Our hire scooters generally have a maximum speed of 4 to 8 mph (depending on the model). Class 2 scooters are limited to 4 mph for pavement use.

21. How do I know if my accommodation can accommodate a mobility scooter?
We recommend checking with your hotel, B&B, or holiday accommodation to ensure they have facilities for mobility scooter users. Many places offer scooter storage or even accessible entrances. If you need assistance, we can help you find suitable accommodations or suggest places that are mobility scooter-friendly. Please note, some accommodations charge a surcharge to store scooters which is £10 per scooter hired.

22. Is there a limit to how far I can travel on my hired scooter?
The distance you can travel depends on the battery life of the scooter you hire plus uphill and downhill journeys. Most scooters have a range of around 15 miles on a full charge, depending on the model and your weight. If you plan to go on a longer trip, please let us know so we can advise the best possible scooter for your needs. Brand new VELECO mobility scooters have a range of up to 30 miles however these are only available to purchase in our shop.

23. Can I drive the mobility scooter at night?
Yes, you can use your scooter at night. However, it’s important to use the lights and reflective markers (if available) for visibility and safety. If you plan on using your scooter in low-light conditions, be sure to ask us for a scooter with built-in headlights and reflectors to ensure you’re seen by others.

24. Are there any age restrictions for hiring a mobility scooter?
You must be at least 18 years old to hire a mobility scooter from us. If a younger user needs a scooter, they must be accompanied by an adult who assumes responsibility for the rental.

25. Is there a security deposit required when hiring a scooter?
Yes, we require a refundable deposit when hiring a scooter. This deposit covers the cost of any potential damage or loss and is refunded when the scooter is returned in good condition. The deposit amount will vary depending on the scooter model and hire duration.

26. Can I return the scooter after hours?
We have designated drop-off times for scooter returns. Our shop hours are 9am to 5pm 7 days a week with a maximum pickup / drop off time of 4.30pm each day.
